WHAT IS MORGUEFILE?

Morguefile.com. Over 380,000 high quality, high resolution photos. Free for commercial use. No attribution required. This page was created in 1996 by a college student named Michael Connors. Connors' goal was to create an image bank in which artists and photographers could exhibit their work and which would be completely free for users.

Over time Morguefiles grew to become one of the most popular free photo banks on the Internet. Unfortunately, there is no Spanish Morguefiles, the page is in English but it is very intuitive and easy to use.

Morguefile HOW MORGUEFILE CONTENT CAN BE USED The material on this page is free of rights but none of the images are in the public domain. This means that the author of the photograph authorizes you to use it but he still owns the material and you can never claim it as your own.

It is important that you keep in mind that www.morguefile.com is a place that offers resources for artists and designers to generate their own projects.

This means that you will have to modify, transform or create your own work based on the images on the site.

If, for example, you want to use a photograph from Morguefile to illustrate an article in your blog, which implies that you will publish the image without any modification, in that case it is advisable that you contact the photographer and ask him for permission to use the material. Generally, the photographer gives his consent but on the condition that his name is placed under the photo.

Regarding the commercial use of Morguefile.com's catalogue, for example if you print any image of the site on mugs, plates, T-shirts, etc with the aim of marketing such objects and without modifying the image in any way, you would be violating the rules that state that photographs can only be used as elements within a creative process.

In this case, to avoid future mishaps, it is advisable to contact the author and request the corresponding authorization.

All images have a minimum size of 800 X 600 pixels although there are no restrictions regarding resolution. If the image you are interested in downloading is too small, you will have to contact the photographer to find out if he has the image available in a larger size.

MORGUEFILE CONTESTS If you are interested in challenging your creativity, you can participate in the daily Morguefile photos contests. Every day you will receive a topic on your cell phone, such as #happiness or #favoriteheart and you will have to use your imagination to capture with your cell phone a photograph that fits the theme but at the same time is as original as possible.

If you do a good job, it can make you the winner of the contest.

MORGUEFILE COMMUNITY All users have a very active participation in the page in the "Community" section. There, both the suppliers of material and the consumers of such material constantly discuss topics of interest.

If you have any doubts, you can create a discussion topic and ask for the advice of experts, and you can also be informed about the latest news in the field of photography.

WHAT CONTENT CAN YOU FIND IN MORGUEFILE It is a very complete site regarding digital images but unfortunately there is no Morguefile video or audio section, the Morguefile catalogue is composed only of photographs and is organized by categories: Popular; Recent; Latest downloads; images with the highest number of downloads.

You can also make your search using keywords related to the subject of the material you need.

In addition to the free Morguefile material, you will find some examples of some of the most important image banks on the net. On the page you will find iStock, Dreamstime, Bigstock, Depositphotos, Fotolia and you will be able to quickly see what is new in each of these banks and learn about the current promotions in each of these companies.
